Music and Food: Restaurants Near the Kimmel Center

November 21st, 2009

Published in: Chamber Music

As you may know, PCMS presents concerts at venues throughout Center City Philadelphia.  A natural extension of any concert event is a meal at one of our city’s fine restaurants or a nightcap following an evening of great music.  We thought we’d start a list of some of our favorite places, and please feel free to add yours by submitting a comment below.

This post focuses on Center City West, which includes the Kimmel Center, the Curtis Institute, and St. Mark’s Church.

Staff Picks

Audience Suggestions:

Kanella, 1001 Spruce Street
Unbelievably good Cypriot food. (I’ve been to Cyprus–trust me, this is way up there.) BYOB

Bellini Grill, 220 S 16th Street
Good Italian with top ingredients–not a lot of red sauce and mozzarella. Best escargot anywhere (Cyprus, Spain, Italy, France, Quebec, Le Bec Fin–beats them all). Well priced. BYOB

Mi Lah, 218 S 16th Street
Vegan. Innovative, delicious, seasonal changes of menu. Well priced. BYOB

How about Beau Monde, at the northwest corner of 6th and Bainbridge? Since I found them I no longer have to commute to Paris for my crepes. The fact that they are in the very building where my mother was born gives the food an extra delicious taste. Note: they are closed on Monday.

Hi Lionel – thanks for the suggestion! That would be a great stopover for Settlement Music School concert (a few blocks south)!
