What They’re Saying:
Joyce DiDonato Takes D.C.
February 17th, 2011
Our brethren in Washington, D.C. have been savoring the vocal talents of Joyce DiDonato this week. As a prelude to her PCMS recital on February 28th, make sure you read this pre-concert feature and subsequent rave review of her recital at the Kennedy Center, courtesy of The Washington Post.
Says critic Anne Midgette: “Whether she was singing a dramatic monologue, such as Haydn’s challenging “Scena di Berenice,” which opened the program, or a song by Cecile Chaminade, fleeting and iridescent as a soap bubble, DiDonato would find a phrase and sing so solidly to the heart of the music, luxuriating in each note, that the sound opened and breathed and blossomed. Rather than being propelled forward, everyone hovered in the moment, together, not wanting it to end.”
More evidence that something truly special awaits us a week from Monday at the Perelman Theater. Can’t get enough of Joyce till then? Continue on down the blog for a glimpse into her new recording, “Diva Divo,” as well as a video clip of her singing Haydn’s “Scena di Berenice,” the first piece on her upcoming program.
