The Artists

Counter)induction is a composer/performer collective committed to making contemporary music both accessible and challenging.

With roots at the University of Pennsylvania and the Juilliard School, the group consists of composers Kyle Bartlett, Douglas Boyce and Ryan Streber; violist Jessica Meyer; cellist Sumire Kudo; and clarinetist Benjamin Fingland.  A fixture on the NYC avant-garde arts scene, they perform regularly at the Merkin Concert Hall and the Tenri Cultural Institute, among other venues.

Recipients of ASCAP/Chamber Music America's “Award for Adventurous Programming,” counter)induction has premiered pieces by both established and emerging American composers, including Eric Moe, Suzanne Sorkin, Ursula Mamlok and Lee Hyla, while also widely promoting the music of international composers.  Their PCMS debut features the world premiere of a quintet by Kyle Bartlett alongside a trio of 20th century classics:  Iannis Xenakis's Stravinsky-esque Ikhoor for string trio; Pascal Dusapin's frenetic yet archaic Trio Rombach for piano trio; and George Crumb's Federico Garcia Lorca-inspired Eleven Echoes of Autumn from 1966.
