Red Hot and Brilliant

"Sanabria's clave-driven music explodes with a Puente-like gusto, and launches into new rhythmic and harmonic territory..." (Billboard)

"Red-hot, blistering, and brilliant" (All About Jazz), Bobby Sanabria and his quartet will perform at UARTS' Gershman Hall on Friday, November 7 at 8 pm.  Grammy nominee, drummer, percussionist, composer, and educator, Sanabria "is not just a drummer but a historian, indeed one of the few authorities in the history of the crossover between jazz and Latin forms" (New York Times).

Bobby Sanabria has performed with a veritable Who's Who in the world of jazz and Latin music, as well as with his own critically acclaimed ensembles. His diverse recording and performing experience includes work with such legendary figures as Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Paquito D'Rivera, Charles McPherson, Mongo Santamar'a, Ray Barretto, Marco Rizo, Arturo Sandoval, Chico O'Farrill, Candido, Francisco Aguabella, Larry Harlow, Henry Threadgill, and the Godfather of Afro-Cuban Jazz, Mario Bauzá.

Sanabria has been featured on numerous Grammy-nominated albums, including The Mambo Kings and other movie soundtracks, as well as numerous television and radio work.  His latest recording project, Big Band Urban Folktales, on the Jazzheads label, is proving to be his most lauded work, garnering critical acclaim for its futuristic approach to the Latin jazz big band canon.
