"They show a shared understanding of the music they play; every bow stroke adds to its meaning and its integrity." (Chicago Tribune)
Beloved for a long-standing ability to approach both contemporary and established classics with respect, care and a sense of adventure, the Juilliard Quartet returns to Philadelphia at the Independence Seaport Museum on Tuesday, November 25. The program spans works by Haydn, Wernick and Beethoven, speaking to the Quartet's ability to play a diverse selection of music in performances characterized by a clarity of structure and pure, beautiful sound.
As Quartet in Residence at New York City's Juilliard School, the Julliard String Quartet has influenced countless aspiring string players around the world. The four members - Joel Smirnoff, violin, Ronald Copes, violin; Joel Krosnick, cello; and Samuel Rhodes, viola - have played complete seven-concert Beethoven cycles at Alice Tully Hall in New York, Casals Hall in Tokyo, at Michigan State University, and most recently, at the International Beethoven Festival in Bonn and at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf.
