"The four extremely virtuosic and accomplished players of The Orion Quartet seem to have been born to be together." (Los Angeles Times)
Returning to PCMS on Tuesday, November 18 at 8 pm, the Orion Quartet - Daniel Phillips, violin, Todd Phillips, violin, Steven Tenenbom, viola and Timothy Eddy, cello - brings to the stage the fresh perspective and individuality for which they have so often been praised. Taking its name from the Orion constellation, the quartet draws on each member's unique qualities to create a singular "persuasive power" (The New York Times). This evening's program at the Independence Seaport Museum features an early Hadyn string quartet, the Philadelphia premiere of Lowell Liebermann's String Quartet No. 4 and Dvorak's String Sextet in A Major.
Joining the Orion Quartet for this special concert are violist Kim Kashkashian and cellist Marcy Rosen. "An artist who combines a probing, restless musical intellect with enormous beauty of tone" (The San Francisco Chronicle), Kashkashian has extensively enlarged the repertoire for solo viola through work with such composers as Gubaidulina, Penderecki and Kancheli, among others. Marcy Rosen has been praised by the New York Times as an artist of "passionate authority" and is well known for her work as a founding member of the world renowned Mendelssohn String Quartet.
