Founded at Marlboro Music in 1964, the Guarneri String Quartet is a remarkable amalgam of diverse personalities. Today the quartet continues its annual Metropolitan Museum of Art six-concert series, instituted in 1965, and its long-standing series and residency at the University of Maryland. The Guarneri has been featured on many television and radio specials, documentaries, and educational presentations in the United States and abroad. A full-length film entitled High Fidelity: The Guarneri String Quartet was released nationally to great critical and public acclaim in the fall of 1989. The quartet is also the subject of several books, including Quartet by Helen Drees Ruttencutter; The Art of Quartet Playing: the Guarneri in Conversation with David Blum; and Arnold Steinhardt's Indivisible by Four: A String Quartet in Pursuit of Harmony.

Principal Violist of the Toronto Symphony, Teng Li began playing the violin in her native China at age five. She entered the Central Conservatory in Beijing in 1992, and by the age of sixteen was accepted to study at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she graduated in 2005. In the fall of 2006 Ms. Li joined the music faculty of the University of Toronto. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including First Prize at both the Johansen International and the Holland-America Music Society competitions, and Second Prize at the Primrose International Viola and Irving M. Klein International String competitions. She recently gave concerto performances with both the Toronto Symphony and the Canadian Sinfonietta, as well as her Toronto recital debut at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Glenn Gould Studio. An accomplished chamber musician, Ms. Li is a member of Chamber Music Society Two of Lincoln Center and has been a participant at the Marlboro Music Festival, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and the Music from Angel Fire festival.
