The Artists

The Miró Quartet is named for the Spanish artist Joan Miró.  Founded in 1995 at the Oberlin Conservatory, the group met with immediate success, winning first prize at the 50th annual Coleman Chamber Music Competition in April 1996 and taking both the first and grand prizes at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition two months later.  They also won first prize at the 1998 Banff International String Quartet Competition and the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 2000.  In 2005, the Quartet was the first ensemble to be awarded the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant, and received the Cleveland Quartet Award that year as well.  Also bringing them great acclaim are the quartet's series of Beethoven recordings, renditions of which PCMS audiences were treated to in a special,  two-part all-Beethoven concert at the Philosophical Society in 2006.  The quartet also performed with PCMS during the 2007-08 season, performing an extremely well-received program of Mozart, Zorn and Brahms at the Perelman Theater.  For more information on the Miró Quartet, visit www.miroquartet.com.
