Since 2007, Jacob Smith has simultaneously served in audience development and fundraising positions with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and the Marlboro Music Festival. Responsibilities include directing annual and endowment fundraising programs, leading audience/donor communications, improving sales and customer service, and facilitating web strategies.
Jacob comes from a diverse background that uniquely combines the creative and business worlds. He holds degrees in Music, English Literature, and Business Management from Carnegie Mellon University, where he was a Presser Scholar and received the Donald H. Jones award in Entrepreneurship. Graduating from Temple University with a Master in Bassoon Performance (2004), he is a principal bassoonist with the Academy of Vocal Arts orchestra, was formerly a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and remains a frequent substitute with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Opera Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Ballet.
As a business owner, Jacob has over 10 years of experience advising companies, universities and nonprofits on internet marketing. He is currently co-owner of Dinkum Interactive, and an investor in Ldger.com and Packet.net.
Active in the nonprofit community, Jacob was formerly board chairman at PhillyCarShare, coordinating its acquisition by Enterprise Holdings in 2011. He currently serves on the board of the Musical Fund Society and Patient Ride Services and has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Temple and Drexel Universities.
A native of Southern California, Jacob lives in Rose Valley, Pennsylvania with his wife Meghan and sons, Rory and Duncan.
