About This Performance

The technical and poetic prowess of Polish pianist Rafał Blechacz will be on full display in his PCMS debut. Since winning First Prize in the prestigious Chopin International Piano Competition in 2005, Blechacz has had an illustrious career—made all the more remarkable by a recent sabbatical year he took to complete his Ph.D. thesis on the philosophy of music. His recital program demonstrates the pared-back elegance of Bach, the power of Beethoven, the tender melancholy of Chopin, and the full-color palette of Franck.

Bach: Partita in C Minor, BWV 826
Beethoven: Sonata in C Minor, Op. 10, No. 1
Beethoven: 32 Variations in C Minor, WoO 80
Franck: Prelude, Fugue, and Variations in B Minor, Op. 18
Chopin: Sonata in B Minor, Op. 58
