Artists’ House Gallery tribute to PCMS

March 14th, 2011

Even though our 25th Anniversary concert has passed, the celebrations don’t seem to stop.  Among the tributes we’ve received this season, the Artists’ House Gallery will present “Celebration of Music” from March 30 to May 1, honoring the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society’s 25th Anniversary and its own 20th Anniversary.

Comprising works by 35 artists, the exhibition includes original paintings, drawings and sculpture, with the artists’ personal interpretations of music as the theme.  Many of the artists have won acclaim, recognition and awards during their careers, and a number received their training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Two additional free events are scheduled during April at Artists’ House.

Sunday, April 10 at 2 pm: Daniel Miller, Chair of the Graduate Program of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, discusses “A Tale of Two Cities”, speaking about the interplay between the cities of Berlin and Paris in the development of Modernism from 1910-1920.

Sunday, April 17 at 2 pm:  A wind trio of students from the Curtis Institute of Music will perform at the gallery.  Featured will be selections by French composers Auric, Ibert, Daniel-Lesur and Tansman.

Artists’ House Gallery is located at 57 N. Second Street in Philadelphia. Founded in 1991 by artists who were graduates of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the gallery has presented more than 2,000 exhibits in its 20 years. Currently featuring work by more than 80 emerging and established artists, the gallery is proud to serve as a collaborator in the first annual Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts.
