The Artists

In 2001 a group of some of today’s most exciting young string players envisioned the creation of a conductor-less and democratically-governed chamber orchestra, focused purely on music-making and sharing its explorations with different communities.  This organic approach, combined with passion and commitment, resulted in the creation of ECCO (East Coast Chamber Orchestra).  Comprised of 17 leading soloists and chamber musicians of the younger generation (many of whom are principals in major American orchestras), ECCO combines the power and expansiveness of a great orchestral ensemble with the personal involvement and spontaneity of chamber music.  A NYC Town Hall debut in 2004 and a U.S. debut tour in April 2006 (including the Kennedy Center) gave ECCO an exciting opportunity to present fresh interpretations of new and old works coupled with passionate and joyous playing, earning the ensemble standing ovations and an immediate re-engagement.  ECCO made its international debut in 2007 at the Seoul Music Festival and Academy in Korea. It will be returning to Korea for performances in the summer of 2008, and to the Kennedy Center for a re-engagement in 2010.
