About This Performance

This concert is part of the Elaine Kligerman Piano Recital Series.

Angela Hewitt’s comprehensive series of Beethoven recordings are widely praised for their clarity, insight, and emotional depth. The five sonatas on her third PCMS program represent the three main periods of Beethoven’s compositional output: the Op. 49 and Pathétique sonatas showcase his earlier, more classical style; the Tempest represents his stormy and emotional middle period; and the program closes with the late, introspective, harmonically progressive Op. 110 sonata.

Beethoven: Sonata in G Minor, Op. 49, No. 1
Beethoven: Sonata in G Major, Op. 49, No. 2
Beethoven: Sonata in D Minor, Op. 31, No. 2, Tempest
Beethoven: Sonata in C Minor, Op. 13, Pathétique
Beethoven: Sonata in A-flat Major, Op. 110
