About This Performance

Enmeshed in the world of meteoric love stories, Brooklyn Rider’s latest program, Star-Crossed, explores three passionate bonds spread across time and geography. Revisiting an audience favorite from the quartet’s earliest days, violinist Colin Jacobsen’s Beloved, do not let me be discouraged references the tragic story of the ill-fated lovers Layla and Majnun; Gabriela Lena Frank’s latest string quartet explores the tumultuous relationship between Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera; and Death and the Maiden, Schubert’s iconic dialogue between a terrified young woman and death, receives Brooklyn Rider’s signature interpretation.
