About This Performance

This afternoon of music by husband and wife Robert and Clara Schumann unites five versatile, well-established PCMS favorites. After a lesser known work of Robert’s (his charming piano trio titled: Phantasiestücke) opens the concert, a selection of vocal gems about love and loss by both Clara and Robert follow, before the program concludes with Robert’s E-flat Major Piano Quartet––a rich piece that pays tribute to his ardent study of the masters: Haydn, Mozart, and especially Beethoven.

R. Schumann: Phantasiestücke, Op. 88
C. Schumann: 6 Lieder, Op. 13
R. Schumann: 3 Lieder (Sel.)
R. Schumann: Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 47
