About This Performance

Over four decades, the Orion Quartet has been a fixture on the PCMS series, with 28 appearances to date. Having announced that this season will be their last, the Orion returns to Philadelphia once more to display their masterful technique and “warm, variable, and beautiful” (Strings Magazine) ensemble tone. Their farewell program concludes with Beethoven’s Op. 130/133, “one of the great artistic testaments to the human capacity for meaning in the face of chaos” (Mark Steinberg).

Schubert: Quartet in G Major, D. 887
Beethoven: Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130 w/ Grosse Fuge, Op. 133

Running time: 2 hours and 5 minutes (including intermission)
