Jeffrey Miller, piano

Jeffrey Miller

Jeffrey Miller is a December 1974 graduate of West Chester University with a double major in piano and voice, and it was during his freshman year at WCU under the guidance of Stella Conaway that he chose to specialize in accompanying.  It was a natural decision prompted by the fact that he had been accompanying singers and school and church choirs non-stop since he was in 5th grade. Since his graduation from college, he has performed hundreds of recitals with singers from America, Canada, Peru, Venezuela, and Argentina.  In the early part of his career, he accompanied master classes for Birgit Nilsson, Maureen Forrester, John Duke, Martina Arroyo and David Garvey.  In June of 2017, Mr. Miller completes his 33rd and final season with OperaDelaware, where he has been principal accompanist since 1985, chorus master since 1995, and Music Director of the company since 2010.  In May of 2016, he celebrated the 50th year of his career as a church organist and choir director. His life-long interest in the history of recorded sound, focusing primarily on classical vocal recordings, inspired him to take an active part in making early acoustic recordings available to the public. As production coordinator for the CD companies Romophone and Marston, he has participated in the release of over 100 compact discs of historic singers, including the complete recorded output of Emma Eames, Marcella Sembrich, Nellie Melba, and Lucrezia Bori, the latter having won the Gramophone magazine Best Historic Vocal Recording of the Year award in 1995.  Mr. Miller continues to work closely with Ward Marston to this day, providing the public with definitive CD transfers of rare and beautiful vocal performances at a fraction of the cost of the original source discs.
