Tanja Tetzlaff, cello

The cellist Tanja Tetzlaff has developed an extensive repertoire including standard works of classical Solo- and chamber music literature for cello as well as compositions of the 20th and 21th century. In 2011, a recording of cello concertos by Rihm and Toch was released by NEOS.

Tanja Tetzlaff studied with Prof. Bernhard Gmelin in Hamburg and with Prof. Heinrich Schiff at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

After having successfully participated in many international competitions, Tanja has been performing with famous orchestras, among others the Tonhalle-Orchester Zí¼rich, the Bayerische Rundfunk and the Orchestra of Konzerthaus Berlin, the Royal Flandern orchestra and the Orquesta Nacional de Espana , the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen as well as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de Paris and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

She has worked with conductors like Lorin Maazel, Daniel Harding, Philippe Herreweghe, Sir Roger Norrington, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Dimtri Kitajenko, Paavo Järvi, Michael Gielen, Heinz Holliger to name a few. Recordings of Haydn’s cello concerts with the Vienna chamber orchester and a portrait CD with Solo pieces and concerts with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen were already published; one CD with cello concerts written by Wolfgang Rihm and Ernst Toch was just released.

In the 2013/2014 season Tanja Tetzlaff will be performing the Cello Concertos of Haydn, Dvorak and Shostakovich with various orchestras. Next to an extensive tour with the Tetzlaff Quartet she can be heard with the Piano-Trio including Lars Vogt and Christian Tetzlaff in Salzburg, Paris, Berlin, Neumarkt, Schwetzingen, Zí¼rich and Bremen. The Trio will be playing all three of the Brahms Piano-Trios in these cities, which then will be recorded afterwards.

Chamber music has a significant part in Tanja´s career. She gives regular recitals in renowned concert series and festivals such as the Heidelberger Frí¼hling and the Festivals in Bergen und Edinburgh and she is part of the regular guests at the Heimbach Festival. Her chamber music partners are some of the world´s foremost musicians e.g. Lars Vogt, Leif Ove Andsnes, Alexander Lonquich, Antje Weithaas, Florian Donderer, Baiba and Lauma Skride and her brother Christian with whom she has founded the Tetzlaff Quartet. Together with Florian Donderer she organizes a concert series at the Sendesaal Bremen.

One CD of the Tetztlaff Quartet with pieces of Sibelius and Schönberg is published by CAvi, another one with pieces of Schumann for piano trio, recorded with Christian Tetzlaff and Leif Ove Andsnes by EMI - both of them are included on the honors list of the of the German Record Critics' Award 2011. With her duo partner, pianist Gunilla Sí¼ssmann, she is a regular guest at prominent concert series in Scandinavia and Germany. A CD with works of Sibelius, Grieg and Rachmaninov was released by CAvi-music as well as a CD with the Brahms Cello Sonatas.
