Tubular

Tubular

Carol Jantsch, principal tuba of The Philadelphia Orchestra, came up with the idea of Tubular to expand the chamber music repertoire for tuba in a fresh way. Tubular covers pop songs from Michael Jackson to Nirvana to Lady Gaga with the goal of making fun music that gets the audience dancing and singing along. Jantsch writes all the arrangements for the band, a complex process that involves transcribing pop music by ear. Her bandmates include former University of Michigan classmates who are now serving in the U.S. Army Field Band, the U.S. Navy Band, and the U.S. Naval Academy Band: Scott Devereaux, tuba; Adam Dotson and Michael Brown, euphonium; and Andy Emerich, drums.
