Paul Lewis has immersed himself in Schubert`s piano sonatas "to the extent that the music seems to flow out of him effortlessly, as manifest in a poised and controlled execution that easily handles the formidable challenges posed by each piece” (Chicago Classical Review).

On Tuesday, 11/12, Lewis brings Schubert`s Sonatas D. 958–D.960 to Perelman Theater.

Jonathan Biss has established himself as “one of his generation’s most serious musical thinkers” (New York Times). His recital next Friday, 11/1, at Perelman Theater pairs one of Schubert’s last sonatas—“works which address the mysteries of life and death, and do so unflinchingly and with astonishing beauty”—with a newly commissioned work by Black composer Alvin Singleton.

“The intention is not to suggest a particular connection between the old and new works," shares Biss: "it is to show that one can immerse oneself in the greatest music of the past and work to ensure that the present and future are more just, and so much richer for it."

On November 10 at Perelman Theater, two fantastic string quartets unite for a program that celebrates two great chamber music compositions: Felix Mendelssohn’s effervescent yet profound Octet and George Enescu’s imaginative and compelling Octet.

Next Wednesday, 10/30, at Perelman Theater, the Escher Quartet opens its PCMS program with Samuel Barber’s Quartet in B Minor, Op. 11, the middle movement of which Barber later arranged for string orchestra as the Adagio for Strings.

The Escher’s 2021 recording of the complete quartets of Samuel Barber was heralded as a "fascinating snapshot of American quartets, with a recording that is brilliantly detailed, this is a first-rate release all around” (Strad Magazine).
