About This Performance

Common Connections looks at the intersection between career development and community engagement. Specifically tailored for entrepreneurs in any field, this panel discussion at the Philadelphia Museum of Art will be led by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance’s GroundSwell Program, providing the context for how the creative economy is making a difference in neighborhoods throughout the city. Astral, a local incubator for the nation’s most talented emerging classical musicians, will bring attention to the skills and experience that young entrepreneurs need to develop their professional careers. The Philly-based Jasper String Quartet will offer the perspective of how their involvement in community engagement helped to develop these assets while a community partner (TBD) will raise awareness of the impact this has on society in return.

Directly following the panel discussion at 3 pm, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society will present Jason Vieaux in a solo guitar recital, performing works that traverse five centuries of music from three continents.  Vieaux–an Astral alumnus and co-founder of the guitar department at the Curtis Institute–"makes the single guitar seem like a body of instruments at work, an orchestra of sound” (Philadelphia Inquirer).  Tickets for those attending the panel discussion are $10.

In addition, the Art Museum is also offering $5 off general admission tickets that day for those who show their email confirmation to the admissions representatives at the main desk.

This SOYP event is presented by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society in partnership with the Young Friends of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  Have questions?  Please contact Erik Petersons at epetersons@pcmsconcerts.org or 215.569.8080.
