“A fresh and vital participant in what is a golden age of American string quartets” (The New Yorker), the exceptionally-refined Daedalus–currently Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Pennsylvania–excels at interpreting the music of our time. Pianist Marcantonio Barone also “brings instant charisma to new, challenging works” (Philadelphia Inquirer) and, along with the “intelligent and communicative” (New York Times) baritone Randall Scarlata, was a driving force in constructing this program of premieres by four gifted contemporary composers.

Marcantonio Barone, piano

Born in 1962, American pianist Marcantonio Barone made his debut at the age of ten at a Philadelphia Orchestra children's concert. He returned in 1990 as soloist on the Orchestra's subscription series under the direction of William Smith. He has also performed as soloist with the Saint Louis and Houston Symphony Orchestras, the Moscow Symphony.
