About This Performance

This concert is supported in part by Esta Schwartz, in memory of Dr. Elias Schwartz

Bass virtuoso Edgar Meyer joins “exciting, conductorless band of strings” (The New Yorker) ECCO for an afternoon tracing the evolution of virtuosity across two centuries. Meyer’s Concertino for solo bass stands alongside Bottesini’s 19th-century showpiece while his duos for bass and cello and violin and bass echo Rossini’s elegant chamber work. A retrospective of Meyer’s compositions, juxtaposed with a newly-commissioned work for ECCO, reveal how this multifaceted artist has transformed the bass idiom itself, blending classical rigor with bluegrass sensibility.

Program includes works by Bottesini, Rossini, Meyer, and more.
