About This Performance

2013 Richard Tucker Award winner Isabel Leonard is that rare mezzo-soprano who “sings with beguiling tenderness in moments of composure, but whose voice throbs with penetrating intensity” (New York Times). Guitarist Sharon Isbin has been hailed as the “Monet of the classical guitar…a master colorist” (Atlanta Journal Constitution) of extraordinary lyricism, technique and versatility. Their Kimmel Center debut collaboration is a match made en cielo as these two dynamic American performers present a program from Spain’s musical pantheon: works for guitar and voice by Lorca, de Falla, Rodrigo, Albéniz, Granados and Tárrega.

Lorca: Canciónes españolas antiguas (Trans.)
Granados: Spanish Dance No. 5
Albéniz: Asturias (Arr.)

Rodrigo: Aranjuez ma pensée
Montsalvatge: Cinco canciónes negras [Sel.] (Arr.)
