About This Performance

Canadian-born flutist Jeffrey Khaner has been Principal Flute of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 1990. “A technician capable of etching each note in the most sweeping run, and of finding the shading for an expressive nod within the flow of these works” (Philadelphia Inquirer), he is particularly acclaimed for his facility with contemporary music. PCMS commissions by Michael Djupstrom and Robert Capanna–both world premieres–highlight a program with longtime collaborator Charles Abramovic that also features important 20th century works by György Ligeti and Lowell Liebermann.

Ligeti: Musica Ricercata
Djupstrom: Beyond the Forest [World Premiere - PCMS Commission]
Capanna: Piano Sonata [World Premiere - PCMS Commission]
Liebermann: Flute Sonata, Op. 23
