About This Performance

Widely considered the quintessential American string quartet, the Juilliard has long been recognized for the boldness of its interpretations of the classics with an equal and parallel practice of championing the new. Following a newly-commissioned quartet by Lembit Beecher, Canadian piano titan Marc-André Hamelin joins the Juilliard for one of the best examples of late Romantic chamber music: Dvořák’s richly melodic Quintet in A Major, Op. 81.

Beethoven: Quartet in D Major, Op. 18, No. 3
Beecher: One Hundred Years Grows Shorter Over Time [Philadelphia Premiere]
Dvořák: Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 81
