About This Performance

Louis Lortie performs in place of Rudolf Buchbinder, who was forced to cancel his U.S. tour due to illness. Tickets to Rudolf Buchbinder’s recital will gain you entrance to Louis Lortie’s program.

“Few artists out there have as much artistic integrity as pianist Louis Lortie” (Philadelphia Inquirer). The superb French-Canadian pianist offers the first recital in our Beethoven piano sonata cycle, highlighted by Beethoven’s 23rd sonata, the Appassionata, a work considered by many to be Beethoven’s most emotional and most violent musical utterance.

Beethoven: Sonata in C Major, Op. 2, No. 3
Beethoven: Sonata in C Minor, Op. 13, Pathétique
Beethoven: Sonata in F Major, Op. 10, No. 2
Beethoven: Sonata in F Minor, Op. 57, Appassionata
