At 70 years of age, Peter Serkin occupies a revered position as an elder statesman of American pianism. A program of canonical works by Bach and Mozart culminates in Bach’s monumental Goldberg Variations—a Serkin specialty for many decades. “Serkin still performs the piece with a fresh, questing outlook and formidable insight. It was a master class in how to lend individual character to each variation, without losing sight of the work’s overall balances and architecture” (Minnesota Star Tribune, fall 2017).
