In "Krik! Krak! Songs and Stories from Haiti" on Tuesday, 12/5, Kuwento Mizik invites listeners to take a deep dive into the rarely explored world of Haitian art songs, solo classical piano repertoire, arrangements of traditional folk songs for the concert stage and Kuwento Mizik’s original adaptation of the Haitian folktale, "Tezen."

With Indian-Filipino-American and Haitian backgrounds, Veena Kulkarni-Rankin and Jean Bernard Cerin synthesize their broad cultural heritage with western classical training. Kuwento, Filipino for “story” and Mizik, Haitian Creole for “music” capture exactly what they do: art songs, popular songs, stories and folksongs from around the world, contemporary classical music, and Kuwento Mizik’s own original work.
