In February, PCMS had the pleasure of bringing the @imaniwinds to the Alain Locke School in West Philadelphia. The @lockelions learned about the different instruments in a woodwind quintet, heard some new and familiar pieces of music, and asked questions of the quintet members. Thank you to the Imani Winds for your engaging teaching and thank you to our partner, the Locke School, for having us - we can’t wait to return!

Next Wednesday (3/29) at Perelman Theater, tenor Lawrence Brownlee presents RISING with pianist Kevin Miller. Secure your ticket by calling Bradford and Emily at our Box Office or visiting pcmsconcerts.org 🎟

"Convincingly performed by these two top-level artists, Rising made a powerful statement on behalf of African-American art songs. One can find much variety, breadth, and depth within it, even while knowing that beyond the 32 songs represented, there is much more art song by Black composers and poets that deserves to be explored" (EarRelevant).

"With late Beethoven," says cellist Marie Bitlloch of the Elias String Quartet, "each piece is such a special journey, and when you perform them, they take on a life of their own. No matter how well we try to plan, they tend to go in a slightly different direction. That’s the beauty of chamber music, and the genius of Beethoven and all the composers we play." Don't miss the Elias Quartet's upcoming PCMS concert next Tuesday (3/28) at Perelman Theater.

In her PCMS recital with Julius Drake, mezzo Fleur Barron "showed herself unafraid to move the expectations of classical music forward, linguistically, thematically, and culturally. It’s exactly the kind of creative freedom and curatorial insight the art form needs," writes Cameron Kelsall for Parterre Box.

On March 29th, tenor Lawrence Brownlee returns to PCMS with a new recital entitled "Rising" that highlights new new by African-American composers with text drawn from the great poets of the Harlem Renaissance. Tickets are still available, and you won't want to miss this:

Following his performance of "Rising" earlier this month, The Boston Globe praised "Brownlee’s ardent rendition of Shawn E. Okpebholo’s dreamy, sensual “Romance”; almost all the commissions are worthy of repeat performances by as many singers as will take them on, but “Romance” will be a tall order for anyone who doesn’t have Brownlee’s expressive nuance and extensive high range."
