Elias Quartet Personnel Change for Feburary 2018 Concert

By Brian Potter on November 17, 2017.

We've just received word from the members of the Elias Quartet that violist Martin Saving will be unable to participate in the quartet’s upcoming North American tour in February-March, 2018, due to treatment for a medical condition which involves his arm. Simone van der Giessen will fill in for Martin for all performances on this tour, including the quartet's February 21, 2018 appearance with Jonathan Biss at the Perelman Theater.

Says the quartet: “We've known Simone for a long time, since we were students. We overlapped by a year at the Northern College in Manchester and had the same chamber music mentor there. Her quartet, the Navarra quartet, are some of our favorite musicians as well as close friends of ours. We love playing with them, and often play quintets, sextets, and octets together. It is always so easy and natural, like an extended quartet! So Simone joining us while Martin recovers feels very natural, we've been having a wonderful time playing with her and we're so happy that she is able to join us on this tour."

We look forward to having you with us for the Elias's third appearance on our series, which includes Mozart's Quartet in B-flat Major, K. 458, Hunt; Kurtág's Six moments musicaux, and Brahms' Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op. 34. Tickets are $30. To purchase or for more information, please visit the concert page or call our box office at 215-569-8080.
