Inon Barnatan Replaces Ingrid Fliter

By Brian Potter on April 26, 2017.
We have just received word that, regretfully, Ingrid Fliter must cancel her upcoming U.S. tour due to family reasons and thus will not be appearing with PCMS on May 10, 2017.

However, we are pleased to report that pianist Inon Barnatan (who last appeared with PCMS in 2010 with cellist Alisa Weilerstein) is available to perform for us that evening. His concert will take place at the same time and in the same hall as the original—on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at 8:00 PM in the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater. Your tickets to Ingrid Fliter’s recital will gain you entrance to this new program.

Brahms: Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24
New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert has called Israeli-born pianist Inon Barnatan “a complete artist: a wonderful pianist, a probing intellect, passionately committed.” Barnatan’s program explores multiple approaches to the idea of variations in music, opening with Handel’s Chaconne, built around an eight-bar theme, and concluding with Brahms’s use of a simple theme from Handel’s First Harpsichord Suite and 25 variations of astonishing variety. The work concludes with a masterful and exultant fugue built upon a four-note motif from the original theme.

We apologize for this late change but think that you will really enjoy the new program. However, if you prefer not attend, you have three options:

(1) Exchange your Fliter tickets for another PCMS event this season.

(2) Contribute your tickets to the PCMS Student Ticket Fund. You will receive a tax deduction, and we will provide an equal number of free tickets to students who could not otherwise attend. This is a wonderful way to enrich the lives of young people and build new audiences.

(3) Request a refund—if you wish, we will send you a check or refund your credit card.

To inform us of your choice—or if you have any questions—please contact Bradford, Michelle, or Erik in our box office at 215-569-8080 or boxoffice@pcmsconcerts.org.

We thank you for your understanding and look forward to enjoying the Barnatan recital with you.
