Singing Freedom

January 15-16, 2023

Singing Freedom explores the experiences of enslaved people through a two-part project that utilizes Freedom on the Move—Cornell University’s database devoted to capturing “a multiplicity of voices and perspectives, each meditating on what it means to risk all to be free.” In collaboration with Sparks & Wiry Cries, PCMS presents a group of exceptional artists, composers, and poets who honor and illuminate these voices that celebrate the bravery of freedom seekers, highlighting stories of strength rather than stories of oppression.

For a preview of Singing Freedom, watch the 6-ABC video segment below featuring PCMS Artistic Director Miles Cohen and performance clips of the participating artists.
