The Artists

Since its inception, the Orion Quartet has been consistently praised for the fresh perspective and individuality it brings to performances, offering diverse programs that juxtapose classic works of the standard quartet literature with masterworks by living composers. They remain on the cutting edge of programming with their wide-ranging commissions from composers Chick Corea, Alexander Goehr, John Harbison, Leon Kirchner, Marc Neikrug, Peter Lieberson and Wynton Marsalis, and enjoy a creative partnership with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. With over fifty performances a year, the members of the Orion String Quartet - violinists Daniel Phillips and Todd Phillips (brothers who share the first violin chair equally), violist Steven Tenenbom and cellist Timothy Eddy - have worked closely with such legendary figures as Pablo Casals, Rudolf Serkin, Isaac Stern, Pinchas Zukerman, Yo-Yo Ma, Peter Serkin, András Schiff, members of TASHI and the Beaux Arts Trio, as well as the Budapest, Végh, Galimir and Guarneri String Quartets. The Orion serves as Quartet-in-Residence at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and New York's Mannes College of Music and is the Resident Quartet at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music.  For more information on the Orion Quartet visit www.orionquartet.com.

The longtime second violinist of the Guarneri Quartet, John Dalley was born in Madison, Wisconsin and studied with Efrem Zimbalist.  Formerly on the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory, a member of the Oberlin String Quartet, a participant at the Marlboro Festival, and artist-in-residence at the University of Illinois, Mr. Dalley has since concertized extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand in recital and as soloist with orchestra.  He is on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Music.

Celebrated for his "accurate intonation and warmth of tone" (New York Times), Grammy-nominated cellist Peter Wiley attended the Curtis Institute at just 13 years of age, under the tutelage of David Soyer. He continued his precocious accomplishments with his appointment as principal cellist of the Cincinnati Symphony at age 20, after one year in the Pittsburgh Symphony.  Wiley has enjoyed a long-term association with the Marlboro Music Festival, is currently on the faculty of the Bard College Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music and has performed as a member of the Guarneri String Quartet and Opus One Piano Quartet.
