The Return of the “Social Series”

By Erik Petersons on October 5, 2011

As Miles warms up his voice for his pre-performance greetings from the stage, I am pounding the pavement in search of the finest delicacies our area has to offer.  Once again this year, the “Social Series” will be a staple of our concerts at the American Philosophical Society.  For each concert at that venue this season, we will have a local vendor on hand to conduct tastings before the concert and at intermission. Make sure to come early, mingle and sample some of the best wine, chocolates, beer, cheese and coffee that Philadelphia has to offer.

To open the 11-concert Series, we'll present a coffee tasting with Burlap and Bean Coffee, the Newtown Square roastery and café whose beans have been a staple at PCMS concerts for two seasons running. Before tenor Nicholas Phan's Friday, November 4th recital,  Burlap and Bean coffee guru Kapil Kataria will have fresh coffee brewing, and throughout intermission he'll continue to serve samples and discuss the company's amazing array of blends and single origin coffees with the coffee lovers in our audience.

Only four days later, Lore’s Chocolate's at 7th and Chestnut Streets will join us to share sweet samples with our patrons before the Musicians from Marlboro concert on Tuesday, November 8th. More details to come later, so stay tuned to this space for updates on these special events and the vendors that will be joining us.
