About This Performance

This concert is supported by Elaine Kligerman and the Adele & John Gray Endowment Fund, in honor of Gideon Paz

For his debut recital with the Society, Boris Giltburg offers towering sonatas by Beethoven and Liszt before concluding with Rachmaninov’s 13 Preludes, Op. 32, which Giltburg describes as “a set of fully developed, standalone small worlds, complete within themselves.” The Moscow-born Israeli pianist has gained recognition as a leading interpreter of Rachmaninov. “His originality stems from a convergence of heart and mind, served by immaculate technique and motivated by a deep and abiding love for one of the 20th century’s greatest composer-pianists” (Gramophone).

Beethoven: Sonata in A-flat Major, Op. 110
Liszt: Sonata in B Minor
Rachmaninov: 13 Preludes, Op. 32

Running time: 1 hour and 50 minutes (including intermission)
