About This Performance

Our third Musicians from Marlboro tour ensemble features nine outstanding musicians and a work that has not been heard at the Society in over two decades. Respighi’s rarely performed Il Tramonto (The Sunset) for voice and string quartet is a hauntingly affective work that tells the story of two lovers and their tragic fate. The evening ends with one of the most beloved chamber music works: Mendelssohn’s effervescent String Octet, a piece brimming with bustling energy and beautiful melodies.

Lauren Pearl Eberwein, soprano; Abigail Fayette, Alina Kobialka, Anna Lee, & Scott St. John, violin; Kei Tojo & Sharon Wei, viola; Tony Rymer & Judith Serkin, cello

Respighi: Il Tramonto
Brahms: Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 67
Mendelssohn: String Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 20
